Adding Youtube to your Facebook Fanpage

by Nancy Radlinger

Well this is one that I didn't think would be so easy and I had been trying to do this for sometime and putting in the embedded code just did not work. But I finally figured it out and adding your videos to your facebook fan page is not as hard as a person things when you find the right tools to use lolol.

You know how I have mentioned in previous post on how important it is to get to other blogs and create yourself backlinks - well they are also important for finding out how to make your life easier - and I found this one on a blog that I co-author on and want to give Shanker a plug here for asking me - check it out here Adding your videos to your facebook fan page because the creators of the facebook fan pages (Involver) has created an application that makes it so easy to add your videos. Now if I can do you - so can you - check out my fan page here

Just click on the Youtube tab and you will see some of the imported videos from my channel - what is so cool is that right above you featured video is a clickable link that takes you to Youtube to see more.

With video being pretty hot right now and so many people using youtube - this will sure give them a chance to check you out more. Now if you notice below the main video there is a place where your visitors can comment on your video - another way to keep the doors of communication open - what you think?

Head over to install Involver Youtube application HERE Oh forgot to mention - when setting up your page - if you click your uploads - it will upload your latest ones and then they will be rotated automatically - I just love easy, don't you??????

Here another plugin that you can place on your website to let people know about your Facebook Fan page.

Interactivity is the key to blog success. Here's the exact language to use to get it. Yes, exact.

by Dr. Jeffrey Lant

Hear ye, hear ye! Blogs are the hottest thing on the 'net. You know it... and you've done the necessary to set yours up and publish, right? Out it goes... then... nothing. Not a peep from any reader. That's bad, real bad.

That's why  I'm here -- to help you achieve maximum blog success.

As you're reading along with this article, think Cole Porter's peppy little number, "Friendship" (from "Was a lady," 1939) because that's what this article is, a friend helping a friend achieve maximum success online, this time with your blog.

Interactivity is the key.

Blogs work when they're interactive, that is when you get  your audience/readers to respond. And why do you want them to respond? Because blog readers who respond are the very best customer prospects there are, that's why. Moreover if you're smart, you want to monetize your blog just as quickly as possible, right from the get-go... so that every time you publish your blog your readers, your prospects -- with their money -- respond.

Here's how to make this happen day after golden day.

Announce your objective, so that people know that your blog is interactive... and you expect them to respond.

"Readers! You've arrived at the most interactive blog online... where we are in constant touch with our readers... and readers are encouraged, indeed expected, to respond. We like hearing from you!"

Make this goal pellucidly clear to your readers. And keep this exact language in all blog posts. It's your welcome mat for the world.

Words that get people to respond to your lead article.

"Folks, I'm delighted, pleased, ecstatic to bring you this article (add title here).  It's written by an expert (add name here)  who knows what she's  talking about. After you've read this piece, email me at once at (email address). Tell us what you think! We genuinely want to know!"

Put like this, such a plea is irresistible. Expect responses fast, always remembering that each response represents either the beginning of an ongoing relationship with that respondent...or the strengthening of an existing relationship. In short, it is the raw matter for success and nothing but success.

Ask your readers to respond to individual articles, not just the entire blog.

Remember, not only must your blog be perceived as interactive; each portion of the blog must be so configured. In other words, you want each and every article and/or blog section to generate leads. Here's how to do it.

"Friend, this article by (name of writer) is absolutely terrific, isn't it? The writing is incredible... the content superb. What's more , I can tell you how to get content of this amazing quality on your blog free. Email me your name, email address, and phone for the details. Yes, I mean FREE!"

Offer a freebie in every issue.

One particularly popular freebie, which I've used for years, is to write and make available a Free Report to your readers on a subject of interest to them, a subject like this:

"Boy, oh boy, have I ever got the terrific freebie for you today, you lucky blog readers, you. This report, absolutely free, is titled 'Just what you need to know and do to get (whatever benefit you sell)'. This special report is packed, just packed, with superb, hard-to-find details , and I'm lucky to be able to GIVE it to you. Email me now at (your email address) with your name, email address and phone number or just call me now at (your telephone number.) P.S. Be sure to tell me what you think after you've read it!"

Or, try this freebie. It's worked for me for years, and it's a pip of an example and model for you.

"Incredible, but true. Due to a special arrangement with some hot-shot traffic gurus, I'm able to give out 1,000,000 guaranteed visitors today, that is 50,000 each to the FIRST TWENTY READERS who respond today. Be one of them. Email me now at (email address) along with your name, address, and phone number or just pick up the phone and call me now. DON'T WAIT. This special offer can't last!"

Ask for comments. Use the comments.

Remember, your objective is to solicit and then receive comments from every reader. First, savour them; you have earned a little self-congratulation, because with each blog post and every reader response thereto, you are distancing yourself from the also-rans of blog publishers and firmly establishing yourself as a Smart Cookie. Now, press your advantage.

When responses arrive, be sure to publish them in  your blog, good, bad, or indifferent. Of course, you want every response to be positive. These are the most welcome and easy-to-use blog posts. Publish them at once... and use them to generate more responses. You want your readers to see and be clear on the fact that yours is one of the most exciting, worthwhile blogs in the land. Make it a point to publicize every positive response you get:

"Wow! Here's a great response from (name of reader responding). We sure do appreciate these responses, not just because they're complimentary (but what's wrong with that anyway?) But because they make it clear how you feel... and what  you like about what we're doing. That's Very  Important indeed! Always  include your name, address, phone, and email address."

What if the response is carping, critical, vituperative?

The world does not live on a diet of milk and honey. Gall and wormwood do make themselves known. Your job is to use negative comments to impress your readers and even turn your carping critic into a lap dog. Take a  look at how this magic occurs.

"Tom Jones from Pocatello, Idaho isn't too happy today. He has emailed this message: 'Folks, that last article you published on (name of article) was just plain wrong about a couple of points. Here's the low-down..."

All publishers, blog or otherwise, are inured to getting responses like this. The key is turning the criticism into gold, building a relationship with the (momentarily) irked or critical respondent.

"Tom, your points are sooooo well taken. Thanks for making them; we've glad to let our readers have  your point of view and hope to hear more from you. In the meantime, please accept a free copy of our newest report (title here)."

In short, turn lemons into lemonade and emerge wiser and better regarded than before.

Last words... there are no last words.

Blogging, as tried and true bloggers know, NEVER ends. Each issue, each part of each issue, constitutes a potential link to the future. Each thing, every section and each word, is a hook; grabbing, then pulling in your expectant audience, thereby generating leads, comments for future issues... and (how sweet it is) MONEY.

Blogs are the most personal of media. Run with that concept, and make your blog a place of constant interactivity and the satisfaction and profit that ensue to you as a result. Your readers will be happy, recognizing and applauding you, while you laugh all the way to the bank! How nice!

Autoblogging is quite a hot topic these days in the Internet Marketing social circles. In case you have not heard all of the recent buzz and are scratching your head about what autoblogging is, it's a method for creating blogs in a ?set it and forget it' kind of way that have plugins in place to automatically post content daily. With autoblogging you use automated plugins that grab content based on your keywords from RSS feeds, article directories, your own stash of PLR content, and videos. Voice Broadcasting: In Life and in Business, We’re All Farmers

Here is what I use for voice broadcasting. Have questions? Contact me. 201.467.4846.

Grow Your Business!

Some of us grow families, some of us grow careers and some of us grow our own businesses. All of us grow something.

Growing anything, whether it’s a business or a vegetable garden, requires the right ingredients, the right actions and the right timing.

Good seeds, healthy soil, and proper care and conditions are what bring you an abundant harvest in terms of increased sales and revenue in your business.

In business, your seeds are your leads. These are what turn into customers, which in turn become your harvest – your sales.

You’ll need a way to spread your seeds to a wide audience and in a cost-effective manner keeping in mind that the more seeds you plant, the greater your harvest will be.

How’s your marketing? How many eyes and ears are receiving your offer? Are you really getting yourself out there or are you just playing with marketing – ‘toying’ with it?

If you really want to succeed, you’ll need to reach as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

This is usually very expensive with most marketing approaches… except one: voice broadcasting.

Voice broadcasting allows you to transmit your offer to hundreds, thousands or even millions of prospects via telephone very quickly and responsively for a little over a penny per connected call.

It wasn’t always like this. It used to cost 12 to 15 cents per call, whether completed or not. But thanks to advances in technology, the cost has come way down, making voice broadcasting one of the world’s most cost-effective and responsive means of advertising.

So, when you’re tending to your business and hoping for a great harvest, remember to plant seeds – lots of them – as quickly as possible and in a low-cost manner.

If you’d like to learn more about voice broadcasting, I have an extensive training course available that will teach you the ins and outs of generating unlimited, exclusive leads for life so that you never have a shortage of customers. It’s called ‘The Magic Button Lead Generation System.’ It’s simple and effective.

And, it won’t cost you hundreds of dollars to learn my system of generating customers for life – it will only cost $39.95; and for a limited time, I am including 50,000 free, targeted leads for you to ‘plant.’ That’s a lot of seeds! In addition, I will be giving you $100 in free dials, so you can try it out and see the results for yourself and watch your business grow before you make any investment other than into your training itself.

To learn more, please watch my video demo at http://MagicButtonSystem.com.

Wishing you a plentiful harvest!

Innovative marketing for vapour-ware

PayBox is a relatively new, however yet to be up and running e-business. It is currently developing a new online currency and payment processing service to make buying and selling online easier and more secure. Even though the product is as yet unavailable, PayBox is cultivating brand and product loyalty with innovative blogging. PayBox has launched an affiliate program that encourages subscribers to login on a regular basis. Once there, they are asked to read about the company's progress and to contribute suggestions.
Subscribers (near 300,00) are becoming very familiar with the logo since they log on a few times each week to see what's new.
Subscribers are rewarded to contribute to the blog. It's free to sign-up and PayBox starts the account off with $25.00. Your balance increases as you visit. Frankly this part of the program is not clear to me. I'm at $78.00 after a few days. I don't believe we will ever see the cash! If anyone out their can enlighten me about this - feel free to contact me.

My interest in this is the marketing strategy. PayBox currently has 300,000 loyal blog readers so it's not hard to see where their client base will come from and how quickly it will grow if and when the web service launches. I expect other marketers will follow suit.
If you are interested in learning more about this I suggest you follow the link and sign-up - it's free. Ideally you can apply this technique to marketing your product or service.

Blogs are in! Blogs are omnipresent! Blogs are the future of the 'net!

All true but what is a blog... and how do you profit from it?

Purists may offer a different definition (purists usually do)... but to me, the complete capitalist, a blog is and always will be about one thing: making money. Every day. All the time.

Let me say this another way because for far too many people blogs are an unbridled (and correspondingly horrifying) excess of vanity, self-gratification, arrogance, not to mention an avalanche of incredibly boring stuff and Things You Don't Want To Know. Yes, too many smart people use them as a cheap form of venting and therapy.

But (my recommendations in hand) you won't. You'll stay forever focused on the main chance: using your blog to generate prospect leads... and make money. Now... dig in. I am about to deliver an embarrass du choix for big blog bucks.

Train your readers to be responsive.

If you intend to use your blog to make money, you must train your readers to be responsive. Otherwise, you will dramatically curtail and limit your responses (and blog profits)... which is the exact opposite of what you want.

The Internet is, at its best, the best interactive tool in the galaxy. But what if readers don't understand that? Why, then, mon frere, you must remind them of their duty... you must remind them that yours is a fully interactive endeavor and that the responsibility of EVERY reader is -- to respond. Ensuring this result is your #1 objective.

A blog is NOT a standard newspaper or magazine... as readers must be told and trained to use.

Consider the case of your morning newspaper. It is packed with articles. How many do you respond to? Silly question, right? Periodical readers, except on the occasions they have a bee in their bonnets and write a Letter to the Editor, never respond to articles. They just read 'em.

But a blog is essentially different. You want to bring articles and information of interest and importance to your readers; you want them to respond. In other words, blog content should trigger a continuing stream of reader commentary... and help build knowledge about these readers as well as build the relationships that deliver business effortlessly.

Establish a confidential tone from the get-go

Your readers (whether they ever say so or not) will read your blog (as opposed to a million others) because you give them interesting copy that the rest of the world cannot deliver. It's not just that Enquiring Minds Want To Know: it's that these minds want to know things they cannot easily get anywhere else.

Thus your tone is everything: let the reader know that yours is a fresh, new, entirely compelling voice. The more you let them know that yours is an "insider" place, a locale of smart commentary delivered with wit, insight, good humor and progressive outlook, the better.

Always use the second person -- YOU! -- in your blog content.

Blogs are the most person-centered of media. Thus, you must always speak to your readers in the second person, that is with an explicit or implied "you" (the blog reader). This will immediately establish the right tone... and the right focus. Your readers must understand that you are writing to them, for them.

Whenever possible, too, use your blog as a means to speak to individual readers BY NAME, just like Ann Landers, the famous "gossip" columnist used to do, with such devices as "Special for Lola Mae in Seattle." You should regard each issue as incomplete that does not address some pertinent, personal comment to at least one reader by name.

Share (select) personal data and reflections about yourself.

Remember, blogs are, by definition, personal. That means you should share (some) personal information with your readers; asking them to share (some) personal data with you.

This policy, while establishing stronger and more enduring links with your readers, also has in it the seeds of embarrassment, discomfort, even disaster. Reason? It's easy to put things in your blog about yourself which are too personal, too intimate. And by the same token, your readers might share such things with you, for publication.

Actung! Cuidado! Beware! Think long and hard before you publish. Once you hit the send key, your thought and candid revelation belong to the world.

Ask especially for reader comment on all articles you publish.

The articles you publish in your blog may be, of course, on any subject you regard as significant. But blogs by business people should be about how to run such a business with such-and-such products for maximum profit. In other words, if you're selling automobiles... blog articles ("content") should be germaine to this topic, above all.

As you publish such articles, ask readers to comment. As comments come in be sure to use (and then later reuse) them. What people say in reference to your blog content is worthy of publication... and your comment.

Make sure that you request responding readers to include complete name, business name (where appropriate), email address, and phone. Remember, reader comments are not so much about the substance of the comment, as they are about getting the reader to respond, tell you what interests her, and provide complete follow-up details. This is absolutely essential.

Follow up blog comments and responses at once.

What more business? Following these steps ensures you will get a steady stream of the best prospect leads in the world... from people who already "know" you (or at least think they do), are interested in what you offer, and have provided you with complete follow-up details.

Thus, pick up the phone and call readers (now prospects) who respond to you... unless, of course, you have been the smartest cookie, given them your phone, and advised them to CALL you.

The telephone, you see, is essential for making your blog profitable for you. You must say and constantly reiterate the need to call you, as Jeanette McDonald sang, "I am calling you................ will you answer true.......? Get the picture?

Last words

Face it. Blogs are here to stay. People love 'em. Thus, the real question is: will you do the necessary to ensure that the time and money you invest in your blog pays off? To ensure that it does, implement these recommendations ASP... if not sooner. Then blog your way to profits that increase as fast as your list.

How many times can a man turn his head...? Tucson, Arizona and the murderous events of January 8, 2011

by Dr. Jeffrey Lant

It was just an ordinary day at the La Toscana Village Safeway store on West Ina Road except that U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona) with  her mega-watt smile had dropped by to do a "Congress on Your Corner" meet and greet, answer some questions, pose for a few pictures. Maybe she was running for the U.S. Senate, or not. She was keeping her options open, and this was a good place to meet the folks and make a good impression.
While Giffords was doing her job, Jared Loughner was preparing to do his. He was in the parking lot, in a taxi, loaded down with a Glock 19 semiautomatic pistol. The magazine was full. He had another full magazine, too, that had about 30 bullets and two more that each held about 15 bullets. Just in case, Jared was also carrying a knife. But Jared had a problem. On his way to destiny he found he didn't have enough change to pay his taxi fare. He and the driver stepped inside the store, sorting it out... Jared then walked back inside.

In just an instant, in a moment of unspeakable horror death descended, at the hand of the man now known as alleged gunman Jared Loughner, aged 22.

Murdered! 9 year old Christina Green, student council representative and A student.

Murdered! Judge John Roll, 63, his life dedicated to the law and due process.

Murdered! Dorwin Stoddard, 76, who gave his life shielding his wife.

Murdered! Gabriel Zimmerman, 30,  an expert on constituent affairs in Gabby Gifford's office.

Murdered! Phyllis Schneck, 79, affable church volunteer.

Murdered! Dorothy Morris, 76 good neighbor, enjoying a well-earned retirement.

Dead, all dead, with 12 more wounded, bleeding, writhing. But Jared, who delivered death, lived on, condemned to life, protected by the Constitution and the hBill of Rights he sneered at.

Why had this happened when so many knew so much for so long about the troubled mind and insistent presence of Jared Loughner?

The U.S. Army had clues. Jared had applied and been rejected for reasons officials would not disclose. What did they know, when did they know it, what did they do?

Officials at Tucson's Pima Community College, where Jared was a disruptive, unsettling presence, had clues.

Campus police  were called at least 5 times to deal with Jared and his out-of-control classroom antics.  September 29, 2010 they had enough when Jared posted the latest of a string of vituperative, rambling, sense challenged videos, this one claiming the college was illegal, according to the U.S. Constitution, which doubtless he had never read and could not understand.

So frequently forced to deal with Jared, what did these officials know, when did they know it, what did they do, beyond having two uniformed police officers hand-deliver his suspension to his home? They knew enough for that.

Readers of Jared's Facebook and YouTube rants had clues. Incoherent, violent, accusatory, Jared's poorly written posts reeked of the pains he felt and the greater pains he aimed to inflict on someone, anyone.

There was one video titled "America: Your last memory in a terrorist country!". There a figure in the dark clothing Jared habitually wore burned the American flag while wearing a smiley-face mask. Desecration of the flag is de rigueur for the unbalanced and country hating and Jared juiced up this evil sacrament with the soundtrack of a 2001 song by the band "Drowning Pool."

"Let the bodies hit the floor!"

What did his readers know, when did they know it, what did they do? Or did they even notice Jared, who so desperately wanted to be noticed and understood.

Then Jared got serious.

He wrote the obligatory self-justifications. There were 3 of them, all found in a safe in Loughner's home: "I planned ahead", "my assassination," and, tellingly, "Giffords." There was even a flyer from one of Giffords' 2007 "Congress on Your Corner" events. He had, we now know, attended this event, perhaps brainstorming the options that would deliver universal notice, even unto the President of these United States, the land he so reviled.

He purchased his weapon of choice at Sportsman's Warehouse on November 30, 2010. Then he bought his portable arsenal of bullets, lots of bullets.

No one at the store noticed anything particular about this boy, already bursting with purpose and arrogant determination. Boys with odd ticks and rumpled clothes are a daily occurrence in the temple of weapons and the priesthood of the Second Amendment. No one cared. The sale, after all, went through. And that's the important thing, isn't it? What did that obligatory pre-purchase background check show about Loughner, who by now had left so very many clues? Or was it given the most cursory of notice? No one has yet said, but one may suppose.

Which brings us to the spruced up Jared, dressed for mayhem and eternity. He called the taxi and rode off, his driver apparently seeing nothing of the bulky paraphernalia of death toted by the alleged culprit and gunman. We all wonder how that could be.

Just as we wonder how so many could have seen so much and done so little, leaving Jared the initiative, always free to act while others watched and waited.... until the bodies hit the floor.

Fortunately, there are heroes here, two people who tackled Jared gun of death in hand, bringing him down. These (so far unnamed) people of courage did not hold back. They saw, they acted, saving many lives, even at the risk of their own.

As for the rest and all the soul baffling questions, the answer is blowing in the wind.

The next great economic disruption is coming. Are you ready for it?

My name is Michael Hayes and I’m reprinting this article to help prepare the entrepreneur for the next economic disruption. I feel this topic is appropriate for the times, especially since my ears are still ringing from Mike Dillard’s (Network Marketing Guru) video about his new venture.

by Dr. Jeffrey Lant

This title is sure to startle people who follow the ups and downs of the economy with care and perception. "Economic disruption," they might say. "Whaaat? It is my distinct impression that things economic are improving, slowly but surely. Am I wrong?"

No, you're right. Things ARE improving, the signs are unmistakable:

Item: Online 2010 Christmas sales rose 15% this holiday season from October 31 to December 23. Online retailers took in $36.5 billion during this period, compared to $31.5 billion the same period a year ago. (Note: apparel sales lead the way with $7.3 billion in sales, up 25.7 percent from a year ago.)

Item: Weekly unemployment applications of around 425,00 signal modest job growth. Such applications peaked at 651,000 in March, 2009.

Item: Companies increased their orders for long- lasting manufactured products by the sharpest increase in eight months, the Department of Commerce reported before Christmas, 2010. Demand rose for computers, appliances, and heavy machinery... with overall expected 2011 growth at 3.5 percent to 4 percent, up from 2.8 percent in 2010. Andante ma non troppo.

The rich are out and about buying things meretricious de rigueur for the country club set.

As retailers to the rich can unhappily confirm, wealthy shoppers, with their penchant for acquiring gaudy and overpriced items the rest of the world gets by quite happily without, were in short supply during the recession. This Christmas season of 2010 was very different. Mere bagatelles such as luxury automobiles and eye-popping ice were snapped up with alacrity -- and no buyer's remorse.

Said Michael J. Silverstein, a senior partner at the Boston Consulting Group in Chicago. "Many households with incomes above $100,000 don't believe the sky is falling anymore. And when they don't believe the sky is falling anymore, they want things." Amen.

For instance, some national chains and independent merchants expect double-digit increases in jewelry sales for 2010, a dramatic turn-around from the painful 40 percent drops the hardest hit jewelers experienced since 2008.

So, if things are getting better bit by bit, why is this article about the next great economic disruption?

Because, quite frankly, the ease and abundance of good times are like a drug obliterating the painful lessons and memories of bad times... which all contributes to creating the next, inevitable bad times. Instead of losing the lessons of the still clear and painful past, we need to make every effort to remember them.... while preparing for the next great economic disruption for which we must be better prepared than the one from which we're emerging from now.

The great English romantic poet Lord Byron can assist us. One day his lordship received a message from his demanding inamorata Lady Caroline Lamb to "remember" her. Tired to death of her incessant impositions, he sent her this message of unmistakable clarity:

"Remember thee! remember thee! Till Lethe quench life's burning stream. Remorse and shame shall cling to thee, And haunt thee like a feverish dream!

Lord Byron indeed would remember and rearrange matters accordingly ... and so must we all. After all, we all know that such disruptions occur at predictable intervals for which we must be ready.

Here are the preparatory steps to follow starting TODAY!

1) Start a "rainy day" fund. Build this fund by regular monthly additions until it represents at least 6 months of total home expenses and not a cent less. Building this fund in good times takes exceptional determination, not least because in such times you want to "make up" for the things you went without during the recession. At all times, therefore, you must remind yourself that the next bad times are on the way... and that you are determined to be ready for them. Save then as if your life depends upon it... for it does.

2) Survey all expenses. If you think you did so during the bad times, think again. Now you know how many of these things you can comfortably do without. Root them out now... and put the savings in the "rainy day" account. Turning current expenses into income-producing capital is a crucial part of how you'll get comfortably through the next bad times.

3) Review the damage the bad times made. Did you, for instance, borrow against an IRA account or life insurance policy? If so, you must replace these funds by regular monthly payments, not least because such borrowings are likely to have tax and high interest payment implications. These need to be taken care of ASAP.

4) Start your trek ahead with a clear understanding, with a precise, realistic appraisal of where you are today. Many people at this point in the economic cycle are deeply depressed by what they have lost. This is a mistake. Instead of fretting over what is gone from your asset balance, instead review what you have and consider just how you will improve your net worth.

Still more recommendations

5) If you are self-employed, as many people reading this article are, always make the maximum allowable contributions into your retirement account. Treat these as payments, as you would any invoice. And always pay these retirement payments first, before other bills.

6) Make the maximum charitable donations that you can. Your charitable contributions should begin in January of the new year... and not in December. You should set a dollar donation objective for the year (in conjunction, of course, with your accountant.) Start working towards it as the new year dawns and not as it exits.

7) Remove yourself from what I call the "squandering classes." Review each and every expenditure... not just for yourself but for any children still at home and old enough to have jobs. All have a responsibility to think first, determine whether this expense is in fact warranted, and reduce or go without whenever possible.

8) "Batten down the hatches" for 1 month. As a test of your system and habits, live one month in the good times as if it were one month in the bad. Cut expenses accordingly and see how easy (or difficult) your life would be in recessionary times. Such a drill should yield many good ideas as well as clarity on your spending habits.

Death, taxes, bad economic times

When I was growing up people said there were 2 great inevitabilities of life: death and taxes. However, there is in fact at least 1 more: bad economic times. Count on it. They will recur in your life over and over again.

Will you be ready for them?

You certainly will be if you treat them as the certainties they are and prepare accordingly, along the lines of this article. Doing so, when they arrive you will have nothing to fear, and that places you amongst the very smartest and best prepared, the ones destined to ride out the next great economic storm in comfort and with quiet satisfaction.

Ted Williams, his golden voice, and the cost of second chances.

Millions of people worldwide are now familiar with the first "feel good" story of the year. Here are the facts.

Ted Williams was one of a small army of panhandlers with a plum spot along a well-traveled Ohio highway. You know the type, camouflage jacket, scruffy to a degree, odoriferous.

All these folks carry handwritten signs with their message of special pleading, a message designed for maximum pathos and heart-rending effect. Ted's said, in part, "God-given gift of a voice."

Through a tip, the Columbus Dispatch paper heard about Williams and, on a slow news day, sent a reporter to hear this phenomenon say something, anything. It didn't matter what.

Finding Williams wasn't difficult. Like most homeless people, his habits were pretty consistent. After all, there's no place like home, even if you're domiciled in a cardboard box under the interstate.

Ted, an affable fellow, was glad to oblige.... and so he made like the radio announcer he used to be and did the "Coming up at 10 pm tonight...." kind of voice overs, where intonation is everything.

The effect was immediate, electric, the real mccoy, and thanks to the Columbus Dispatch and Utube it went viral, fast -- the bedraggled Williams and that oh-so-perfect voice.

In the way of these things, stuff started to happen for the big-smile Williams right away. He immediately went on Ohio radio and the "Today" show.,(where he cried when discussing the mother he had neglected for so long.

He got job offers and expressions of initial interest from a host of companies and organizations including the Cleveland Cavaliers, the National Football League, the Oho Credit Union League, and ESPN, to name a fraction. Kraft (the cheese people) didn't just offer... they paid him good American greenbacks to do a voice over that only increased his renown and appeal.

There was even immediate speculation that Ted would be invited by the President of these United States to be his personal guest at the upcoming State of the Union Address. There Ted would be mentioned by name so the president could launch a telling phrase in his honor and derive the satisfaction of benevolence.

Ted was eager, grateful, overwhelmed. In an instant the people of America had shed their grace on this man of the streets. It was picture perfect... heart warming... a made for tv movie.

A handsome down and outer who cleaned up well his golden voice generous America taking him to its bosom a soul redeemed kudos and self-satisfaction all round.

And all in a couple of news cycles.

The reality, of course, was different... gritty, complicated, not quite so perfect but utterly predictable. Ted Williams at 53 was a man with a past.... booze, drugs, women... and a host of people who had Something To Say about this man of charm and irresponsibility.

His 90 year old mother stepped forward and had her say-so. Her voice was resolute, too... she looked the camera squarely in the eye and said her piece. Ted had done well in the military, had a good job, a solid life and had thrown it all away, inexplicably on drugs. He was long gone and seldom called; when he did he wanted something. Always to take, never to give. Each call fed her disgust.

In this woman there was a true hint of steel and substance. Old, but not elderly... she had no qualms about saying what she had to say. It was clear she'd been thinking about Ted and all he did wrong for many, many years. Her focus was where it needed to be: not on that golden voice... but on the man who shucked off his responsibilities to find fulfillment in something his mother could never understand or approve. Yes, there was steel in her voice, not just precise articulation and distinct diction.

Then there was his ex-wife Patricia Kirtley. Twenty three years ago he had deserted her and their 4 girls... and a 5th child he had with another woman. Kirtley, in the best tradition of strong black women, weak black men, had brought them all up throughout difficult days and lonely nights... when this partially blind woman of poise, grace, and determination had decisions to make, problems to solve all without the man who should have been present, helping, understanding, comforting.

She says, mildly, the kids feel "some resentment" about a father in the area but so focused on his own needs that he was never there for any of them. If they only felt "some resentment" they were rare children indeed. Rage would have become them better.

And had this long-gone father called Patricia and in that deep baritone now known to the world offered her and his life neglected children even some of his new found riches and promising future?

What do you think?

He had other fish to fry, places to go, people to meet, a golden future sustained by that golden voice. Old hostages to fortune, ex-wives, ex-girl friends, children, mother. They were all part of the past... with no claim to his future.

Ted, after all, was the darling of the media... a likely guest of the President of the United States, a spokesman for that most American of meals, mac and cheese. He had a future in which there was no place for his past.

And so, today, while Ted's smile and famous voice circle the globe in story after story, picking up speed and viewers as it proceeds, Ted's mother and former wife (now with 16 grandchildren) will go about the business of their lives, keeping hope and family alive and together. And they will do it, as they have done it, without Ted and his never-to-be forgotten voice.
